At Home He Feels Like A Tourist
1:22 PM 7/1/2009These are from an epic four-hour walk I took on Sunday. It seemed vaguely like it would rain all day, and for a few minutes, it did: Big heavy drops caught me over by the Iwo Jima memorial when I was considering a few more unobstructed views from inside the gate of the cemetery.
The Lincoln Memorial was quite crowded, although you'd never know it from these pictures. I held my camera high to get a shot of the statue above people's heads, and after toying with random groupings of people by the row of columns, it suddenly emptied out.
The headstones in the cemetery are laid out with such precision that it made me think of visiting the Platonic Coordinate Plane. A little like my memories of "Donald In Mathmagic Land". I started thinking about rational numbers and angles on a billiard table.
And then, suddenly I was obsessed with wildflowers...
